Bangor International Airport posted a 4.8 percent increase over October 2004 passenger figures with a year-to-date increase of almost 7 percent. Passengers flying through BIA totaled nearly 41,000 for October 2005, significantly higher than the October 2004 total of 38,637.
Pet technician certification
Erin Colpitt, a pet care technician at Green Acres Kennel Shop, has earned Level 1 certification through the American Boarding Kennel Association.
In order to be certified, Colpitt had to pass a comprehensive exam covering breed recognition, small animal anatomy and physiology, boarding care, emergency care and first aid, geriatric and degenerative disease care, contagious disease, parasites, zoonotic diseases, pesticides and customer relations.

Holden
New boutique
The Bangor Region Chamber of Commerce participated in the ribbon cutting for a new business in the Holden Plaza on Nov. 22.
Grammee J’s Unique Boutique will hold its grand opening celebration Friday and Saturday, Nov. 25 and 26. The store features an inventory of home interiors and gifts.
Store owner Judy Hager announced that Grammee J’s is seeking donations of nonperishable food items for two local food banks.
Statement of support
Ned Jennings, president of Granville Lumber, signed on Nov. 17 a National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve “5-Star” statement of support at the company’s main store in Holden.
The statement of support confirms that Granville Lumber stores:
. Publicly demonstrate support for their employees who serve in the National Guard and Reserve;
. Promise to safeguard job positions, support continuation of medical and dental benefits for family members, and grant leaves of absence for military service without penalty of lost vacation time to those who serve in the Guard or Reserve, to the extent allowed under applicable laws;
. Ensure that men and women who serve in the Guard and Reserve will not be denied employment with Granville Lumber, nor will there be limited or reduced job and career opportunities due to service in the Guard and Reserve;
. And are advocates for employee service in the National Guard and Reserve.
The National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve is a Department of Defense agency established in 1972. Its mission is to gain and maintain support from public and private employers for the men and women of the National Guard and Reserve.
