Air Force Capt. Erika J. Drzymalla is currently deployed overseas at a forward operating location in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. She is an intensive care unit clinical nurse with six years of military service, normally assigned to the 96th Medical Group, Eglin Air Force Base, Valparaiso, Fla.

Drzymalla is the daughter of Jerry McCarthy of Houlton and Harriet Gray of North Port, Fla. Her husband, Chris, is the son of Colleen Drzymalla of San Antonio, Texas. She graduated in 1994 from Houlton High School and received a bachelor’s degree in 1998 from Husson College in Bangor.

Army National Guard Pvt. Kyle C. Thibodeau has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Knox, Ky. He is the son of Janet Thibodeau of Washburn.

He graduated from Washburn District High School in 2000.

Sebastian R. Engels of Caribou, a junior at Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pa., recently competed in the college’s Army ROTC Ranger Challenge Competition at Fort Indiantown Gap, Pa.

His team finished first in the division out of 19 colleges and universities from Pennsylvania, New York, and New Jersey.

The challenge included nine physically and mentally demanding events. Engels is the son of Richard Engels and Carole St. Pierre-Engels of Caribou, and a graduate of Caribou High School.
