GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Vanessa Vani scored off a Kelly Law assist 1:19 into the third period Friday night, giving the University of Maine a 2-1 women’s hockey victory over North Dakota at Englestad Arena.

Genevieve Turgeon made 23 saves to backstop the victory for the Black Bears, who improved to 7-3-3.

With UMaine trailing 1-0, Kim MacElhaney scored off assists from Julie Poulin and Karine Senecal at 11:30 of the first period.

North Dakota (2-9-2) had taken a 1-0 lead on Melissa Jacques’ shorthanded goal off a Devon Fingland assist just 1:39 into the contest. Amber Hasbargen made 19 saves for the Fighting Sioux.

The two teams play again tonight.
