Slick roads blamed in Hancock County rollovers

ELLSWORTH – Slick road conditions stemming from a Saturday snowstorm caused several rollover accidents in Hancock County, although no one was seriously injured.

Sandra Shaw, 54, of Bar Harbor was driving south on the Bayside Road in Ellsworth at 9:45 a.m. when she rolled her 1996 Oldsmobile Achieva into a ditch.

Shaw was taken by ambulance to Maine Coast Memorial Hospital for treatment of shock, according to police reports. Her vehicle had $5,000 in damage.

Nancy Wadman, 67, of Ellsworth was driving her 2000 Kia Sportage on Route 172 by Schoolhouse Corner at 3:25 p.m. when she lost control on slippery roads and rolled the vehicle. She and her passenger, Joseph Wadman, were treated for minor cuts, bruises and scrapes at the scene by crews from Hancock County Ambulance. The car had $11,000 in damage, according to police reports.

Sarah Macy, 17, of Otis lost control of her 2003 Hyundai Accent while driving south on Route 180. The vehicle slid off the road and rolled into a ditch. The roads were snow-covered and unsanded, the police report said, and the car had $6,500 in damage. Macy was uninjured.
