Racquetball tournament

BANGOR – The Battle of Bangor 5 International Racquetball Tournament was held Nov. 18-19 at Gold’s Gym in Bangor. The Gold’s Gym team: Dave Steiger, Orono; Jon Johansen, Winterport; Dana Lundquist, Bangor; Noah Johnson, Winterport; and Jake McCrea, Orrington, won the team trophy.

Division winners were Steve Hayden, Augusta, open division; Tom Carey, Portland, men’s A division; Dana Lundquist, Bangor, men’s B division; Rod Thibodeau, Bangor, men’s C division; Tom Pancsofar, Brewer, men’s over-35 division; Nate Clark, Carmel, men’s D division; Sandy Colello, Portland, women’s open; and Denise Clark, Carmel, women’s A division.

Paul Keeping of Halifax, Nova Scotia, placed third in the men’s A division and Tim Simeone of Washington, D.C., placed second in the men’s over-35 division play.

Basketball Hoopla

OLD TOWN – The Old Town Parks and Recreation Department and the Old Town Elks Lodge will team up again for an afternoon of basketball competition on Saturday, Dec. 17, at the Old Town Elementary School.

The Hoop Shoot, a free throw contest is open to boys and girls ages 8 to 13. The Hot Shot, a skills test, is open to boys and girls ages 9 to 18.

Registration is noon-12:30 p.m. The Hoop Shoot begins at 12:45 p.m.

Names of those who bring three nonperishable food items, or a new toy for a local charity, will be placed in a drawing for four University of Maine basketball tickets.

After school program

The Old Town Parks and Recreation Department still has openings in its after school program for the following winter vacation days: Dec. 23 and Dec. 27-30.

Program hours are 7:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. The cost is $17 for residents, $22 for others, per day. The program offers a well-structured, energetic and fun environment where school-age children can be with friends or make new ones. Call 827-3961 for information or to receive a package in the mail.
