TRENTON, N.J. – Newspaper publisher Journal Register Co. said Tuesday that it acquired JobsInTheUS, an operator of several career Web sites, for an undisclosed amount.

JobsInTheUS is based in Westbrook, Maine, and operates the JobsInTheUS.com, JobsInME.com, JobsInVT.com, JobsInRI.com and JobsinNH.com Internet job sites. It is expected to generate about $3 million in revenue this year.

Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Journal Register said the acquisition will lower its 2006 earnings by 5 cents per share, but will be accretive in 2007.

Wall Street expects the company to post a profit of $1.16 per share for 2006, according to Thomson Financial.

Shares of Journal Register gained 18 cents to $15.50 on the New York Stock Exchange.
