Small business expert

U.S. Cellular recently named Jill Iverson as the company’s small business expert at its Bangor store, 33 Bangor Mall Blvd. Iverson is one of 500 subject matter experts recently trained as part of the company’s small business team, which will focus on providing small businesses with the individual attention and cellular solutions that are specific to their business.

As Bangor’s small business expert, Iverson will provide guidance to store associates and offer in-store analysis and solutions to meet the different needs of small businesses. Iverson will work with companies to determine their needs by conducting an analysis to identify services that are right for an individual business.

Grand opening

Office Depot announced that it will celebrate the opening of its first store in Bangor at 2 p.m. today, Dec. 8, at 482 Stillwater Ave.

Edward Barrett, city manager of Bangor, will speak at the ribbon cutting ceremony. Guests at the store opening will include City Council member Richard Greene, Candace Guerette and Mike Youngblood of the Bangor Region Chamber of Commerce, Rebecca Hobbs of Spruce Run, Cindy Sereyko of Wings for Children and Families, Ann Wiersma of Community Health and Counseling and Pat Saunders of Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Three in-kind donations of $500 will be made to local nonprofit organizations Spruce Run, Wings for Children and Families Inc., and Community Health and Counseling Services. Eighty backpacks filled with basic school supplies will be given to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Maine.

Kevin Robinson is the store manager. The store employs approximately 25 part-time and full-time personnel.

Orono

Growing subdivision

ERA Dawson-Bradford of Bangor, in association with Libby Brothers, announced the opening of the second phase of Oak Hill subdivision in Orono. Crestview Drive features 12 new 2-acre lots.

The original phase of Oak Hill consisted of eight lots and featured houses built by Libby Brothers.

Libby Brothers and Jon and Nancy Dawson have worked in partnership developing subdivisions in the Bangor area for eight years. Their recent developments include Fairways in Bangor, Beech Ridge in Hermon, Hardwood Drive in Hermon, Oak Hill in Orono and Stetson Drive in Hampden. Their latest subdivision is Pendleton Drive in Hermon, which offers 13 lots with views of Hermon Pond.

Certified product adviser

Gail Ross of Holden recently achieved Teacher Advisory Services Certification with Jigsaw-Highlights, a home-based company that sells educational toys. The certification allows her to provide daycare, preschool, kindergarten and elementary teachers with product recommendations, tips and in-service presentations on play and learning.
