Regarding the article, “Snowe, Collins oppose timetable” (BDN. Dec. 2).

First, I will admit I’m a Bush supporter, Republican and sister and girlfriend of two army soldiers both of whom have serves in Iraq and returned safely.

I applaud Sen. Collins and Snowe for opposing the timetable. I feel like most liberals are so caught up in their own voices yelling “Bush lied” that they can’t hear what the president is saying.

Timetables will encourage insurgents, as our president said in his Nov. 30 speech at the Naval Academy in Annapolis. It will give insurgents a timetable as well. Give them an opportunity to strategize about what we do once we pull out.

After the president’s speech the immediate response from Sen. John Kerry included claims that no one in the Democratic Party had asked for a timetable, just a strategy for success. But, in an article written by Sen. Joseph Biden for The Washington Post he blatantly asked for a timetable for pulling out troops, with a date set for 2006. On top of that the president has given us a whole report on what his strategy is titled “National Strategy for Victory in Iraq,” which can be found on the White House Web site.

Rep. Michael Michaud said he wanted something new from the president. What more does he need?

He has a whole report on the president’s strategy. Why can’t he just admit he supports the suggested timetable from Biden, as do most liberals?

Rep. Tom Allen wants the president to openly admit the war in Iraq is upsetting the insurgency. I believe he knows this. But what difference does it make? Because the poor insurgents are upset we should leave them alone?

Democrats may think we’re using Iraq as our battleground for fighting the terrorists. I hate to say it, but better there than here.
