The Rockland Congregational Church will be host of a Boar’s Head and Yule Log Festival in the new year. The church says medieval English missionaries incorporated the boar into the festival as a symbol of evil in the world and used the feast to celebrate Christ’s coming to vanquish Satan. The celebration took hold. The Rockland event is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 6, and 4 and 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, at the church, 180 Limerock St. The church says the festival will be a “glorious, musical celebration of Epiphany.” Tickets cost $7. For more information, call the church at 594-8656 or e-mail congl@midcoast.com. Tickets may also be purchased at The Reading Corner, 408 Main St., Rockland.
