COREY DEWITT

DeWitt, a 6-foot-2 junior guard for the Ellsworth boys basketball team, averaged 29.5 points in two games in helping the Eagles defeat Hermon and Bucksport to open the season. DeWitt scored 37 points in a 75-51 win over Hermon Saturday and scored 22 in a 57-26 win over Bucksport Tuesday.

Small School (Classes C-D)

JARED ANDERSON

Anderson, a 6-foot-3 junior center for Katahdin High of Stacyville, scored a career-high 30 points as the Cougars defeated defending Class D state champion Central Aroostook of Mars Hill in their mutual season opener. Anderson was making his first varsity start after splitting time between the varsity and junior varsity squads last season.

Big School (Classes A-B)

CASSIE WHITE

The 5-foot-10 senior guard from Hermon High School racked up 19 points and 12 rebounds as the Hawks beat Bucksport 52-38 on Tuesday. She had scored 20 points Saturday in a 59-40 win over Ellsworth.

Small School (Classes C-D)

DANA HOUGHTON

The 5-foot-8 Lee Academy sophomore forward notched 16 points and nine rebounds for the defending Class D state champions in the Pandas’ season-opening 72-54 win over Calais on Saturday.
