PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Guard Quincy Douby was on fire in the first half as he canned all five of his 3-pointers, helped fuel a 12-0 run and gave Rutgers University a lead with 14:03 left in the first half that it would not relinquish the rest of the game.

Douby finished with a game-high 22 points on 8-for-14 shooting (5-for-10 from 3-point range) and the Scarlet Knights ran away from the University of Maine Black Bears for a 91-56 victory Thursday night.

The 6-foot-3 Douby was one of four Rutgers players to score in double digits. Ollie Bailey and Marquis Webb each scored 11 while Jaron Griffin contributed 10 points. Point guard Anthony Farmer had just two points, but dished out a game-high eight assists while committing just two turnovers.

As a team, the Knights had just 11 turnovers while shooting 53 percent from the field.

The 3-7 Black Bears struggled offensively, despite shooting 40 percent (21-for-52) from the field as they committed 22 turnovers. Point guard Rashard Turner had one assist and seven turnovers while Chris Bruff committed five turnovers.

The Knights, now 8-2 overall with no Big East conference games played as yet, scored 23 points off Maine turnovers and their bench players outscored Maine’s 36-15.

Maine would never get closer than eight points (34-26 with 5:50 left in the first half) the rest of the game as the Scarlet Knights would outscore the Bears 18-6 before halftime and never look back.

On the boards, the Bears were only slightly edged as Rutgers grabbed 24 total to Maine’s 21.

Maine freshman forward Philippe Tchekane Bofia of Yaounde, Cameroon, scored nine of Maine’s first 12 points in the first three minutes, but could only manage just six the rest of the game to finish with a team-high 15.

Maine guards Ernest Turner and Jon Sheets each scored 11. Sheets had nine in the first half and Turner, who came into the game leading the team with 17.6 points per game, scored all 11 in the second half.

Rutgers was without the services of starting center Byron Joynes (7.0 rebounds per game), who injured his shoulder in practice. J.R. Inman, starting in Joynes’ place, had seven points, four assists and a blocked shot.
