Our Bangor teachers are working without a contract. Why?
On Dec. 5th I went to the school board meeting to find out. I was not alone. The Abraham Lincoln School cafeteria was packed with other people wondering why contract talks have been suspended by the “powers that be.”
We sat through a lot of discourse; an obvious ploy to delay talking about the suspension of contract talks. Just as it seemed the superintendent would finally get to the subject everyone was there to find out about, he called an executive session and the “suits” got up and locked themselves in the teacher?s room. This happened at approximately 8:15. They didn’t reappear until 9:30. Most of the public got tired of waiting and left.
These people are governing our school system? I am ashamed of them and their tactics. Come back to the table and sit down with the teachers that teach in what you term the “best school system in the state.” Our teachers deserve better treatment then this. The public deserves to be answered.
I encourage any person with a vested interest in the Bangor school system to come to the next school board meeting on Dec. 19th at 7 p.m. in the Abraham Lincoln School cafeteria. Call the school department and let the superintendent, Robert Ervin, know you want answers.
