GUILFORD – Mike Wharff scored 11 of his 21 points during a 16-5 second-quarter scoring surge that carried Piscataquis Community High to a 54-37 high school boys basketball win over the Stearns Minutemen of Millinocket Thursday.

Roy Burdin chipped in with 10 points for the Pirates and Jeffrey Robinson netted eight.

Travis Martin paced Stearns with 16 points and Travis McGreevy put in eight.
