Masardis woman injured in hit-and-run accident on Route 11

MASARDIS – A Hampden man was charged with two motor vehicle offenses Thursday after leaving the scene of an accident on Route 11 in which a Masardis woman was hospitalized.

Nikki Dailey, 18, was transported to the Aroostook Medical Center by ambulance for treatment for back pain complications. She was reportedly pregnant. No information could be obtained on her condition Friday.

Arthur Benson, 46, was charged with driving to endanger and leaving the scene of a personal injury accident.

Benson was stopped by police 30 miles south of the incident on Route 11.

According to Sgt. Dave McPherson of the Maine State Police, Dailey’s 2004 compact sedan was struck by Benson’s vehicle while she was attempting a left turn off Route 11 onto Blackwater Road in Masardis.

Police said both vehicles were southbound on Route 11 at the time.

Dailey was stopped to make her turn, and traffic had stopped behind her. Police said Benson was the fourth vehicle behind Dailey at the time.

McPherson’s report said Benson passed three vehicles before striking Dailey’s car.

Benson continued south on Route 11 from Masardis, where the accident happened at about 2:40 p.m. on Thursday.

Police said Dailey’s vehicle received about $2,500 damage while Benson’s car had about $3,000 damage.

The incident is being investigated by Maine State Police Trooper Greg Burns. He could not be reached Friday.
