UNITY – The SAD 3 board has narrowed its search for a new superintendent to two candidates.

The board meets Tuesday night to interview the candidates again, Chairman Don Newell said Friday, and may select one as a finalist.

He would not rule out further interviews, or seeking more applicants, but said the board is “fairly confident” that one of the two candidates will emerge as a finalist.

A decision to offer the job to one of the remaining candidates after Tuesday’s follow-up interviews is possible, Newell added, though negotiations might delay the release of the finalist’s name.

Newell said having a new superintendent on board early in 2006 was likely.

The position became vacant in September when Daniel Lee left to take the superintendent position in Brewer. Wayne Enman has been SAD 3’s interim superintendent since Lee’s departure.
