The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has awarded $973,777 in housing funds to support efforts throughout Maine. The largest portion, or $500,000, will go to the Aroostook Band of Micmacs as part of an Indian Community Development Block Grant. Nearly $400,000 has been awarded to the University of Maine System for community outreach. The rest will be divided among housing authorities in Brewer, Lewiston and Portland as part of HUD’s Family Self-Sufficiency Program.
