BUCKSPORT – An early morning drug bust by local, county and state officers netted an estimated $10,000 in cocaine Thursday.
The officers charged three area residents, two men and a woman, with trafficking in cocaine after they found about 100 grams of the drug in the car in which they were riding.
Bucksport officers received information on Wednesday that Travis King, 27, of Bucksport, and David Meierdirk, 26, and Jamie Meierdirk, 22, both of Penobscot, planned to travel to Massachusetts to purchase an unknown quantity of cocaine, according to Sgt. Sean Geagan of the Bucksport Police Department. The information indicated that the trio planned to return that night to Hancock County where they planned to sell the drug.
“We forwarded our information to the Hancock County Drug Task Force, and then we all worked together on this,” Geagan said. “Things work well when we work together.”
Agents from the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency quickly established surveillance on the three suspects and were able to follow their vehicle from southern Maine to Bucksport. Officers from Bucksport, the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department and the Maine State Police stopped the vehicle at about 1 p.m. on the outer Bucks Mills Road in Bucksport.
Officers uncovered 100 grams of cocaine with a street value of approximately $10,000, Geagan said.
“That’s a lot of cocaine anywhere in the state, but especially in a rural area,” said Darrell Crandall, division commander with the MDEA Regional Task Force Bangor.
The three were apprehended without incident.
King and David Meierdirk were arrested and charged with trafficking in cocaine. They were taken to the Hancock County Jail. Meierdirk was later released on bail. King remained in custody as of Thursday afternoon.
Jamie Meierdirk was issued a summons for trafficking in cocaine and released.
The drug bust was the second within a week in the region, according to Crandall.
On Dec. 16, MDEA received information from the East Millinocket Police Department that Leslie “Lester” Sigmon, 49, of East Millinocket would be arriving in Bangor by bus and would be carrying a quantity of cocaine. Agents learned that Donna Mason, 47, of East Millinocket planned to pick him up at a Bangor bus station.
Agents followed Mason from East Millinocket to Bangor and kept her under surveillance until Sigmon’s bus arrived. When Sigmon and Mason left the bus station, Bangor police officers stopped the vehicle at MDEA’s request and agents found approximately 57 grams of cocaine hidden in the vehicle.
Mason and Sigmon were arrested and charged with trafficking in cocaine. Mason was later released on bail, and Sigmon remains in custody at the Penobscot County Jail.
