SOUTHWEST HARBOR – Selectmen voted Wednesday night to hold a special midterm election for a replacement for Mark Campbell, who recently resigned his selectman’s position in midterm.

The selectman to be chosen in the February special election will hold the seat through July 2007.

In other business, a downtown parking lot that has posed problems to users will be fixed, the selectmen said, but it’s not clear who will do the fixing.

The parking lot on the north side of the Gordon & White Condominium building adjacent to Carroll Drug Store has deteriorated in places, a letter from the condominium association said.

According to a deed, the town provides maintenance and snow removal for the parking lot.

“There is more than just a maintenance problem here,” Ken Minier, town manager, said at the meeting. “There is an old pit that is kind of caving in. It needs to be plowed, but to do it properly it probably needs to be removed.”

Selectmen agreed that the town will do its part to maintain the parking area safely.
