GUILFORD – Emily Sypher hit two free throws in the final minute and Lauren Young added one to help the Orono Red Riots hold off the Piscataquis Community Pirates 39-37 in schoolgirl basketball action Thursday night.
Orono took a 25-15 halftime lead, but the Pirates outscored the Riots 14-3 in the third behind eight points from Kellie Martel and six from Tracy Dewey to take a 29-28 lead.
Emily Artesani paced Orono with 14 points and Young added 12.
Martel scored 19 for PCHS and Dewey put in 10.
