Two men were injured and taken to a Bangor hospital after separate car crashes Christmas Day in Hancock County.
Police said James R. Stanton, 69, of Trenton was driving south on Route 3 in Trenton about 12:30 p.m. Sunday when he blacked out for some reason. His car, a tan Buick Century, veered off the right side of the road and hit a culvert.
Police said the vehicle went airborne and flipped over before hitting a utility pole on the side of the road.
Trenton firefighters had to use a mechanical device to remove Stanton from the wreckage. The man’s car was a total loss, police said.
Stanton was taken to Maine Coast Memorial Hospital in Ellsworth, then transferred to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.
Earlier that day, a Bath man was injured when he lost control of his Jeep on black ice in Orland.
Police said Patrick R. Nelson, 25, was driving west on U.S. Route 1 about 9 a.m. when he went off the road and hit a utility pole. He declined medical treatment at the scene of the crash but went on his own to Maine Coast Memorial Hospital in Ellsworth later the same day, police said.
Nelson also was transferred to Eastern Maine Medical Center.
