Broncos kick up heels, top ‘Dogs

FAIRFIELD – The Hampden Academy Broncos rallied from an eight-point fourth-quarter deficit to remain undefeated with a 44-41 verdict over Lawrence in boys basketball action Wednesday.

J Uhrin paced Hampden with 14 points, while Jordan Cook scored 12 and Daniel McCue added eight for the Broncos, who limited Lawrence to 14 second-half points

Cameron Oakes led Lawrence with a game-high 16 points, while Dylan Costigan scored 10.

Matt McGlinn scored 18 points while Chris Coffin added 16 points for the Wildcats.

Derek Libbey led Mattanawcook with 21 points, including three 3-pointers. Dylan Hanscom added 14 points for the Lynx.

At Hallowell, Josh Tardiff had two goals and an assist as the Hampden Academy Broncos earned their second victory of the season.

Steve Boutin added a goal and an assist for 2-3 Hampden, while Sam McNutt also scored. Nick Beal contributed two assists, while Kyle Sparacio, Ian Lee and Troy Gaudet also earned assists for the Broncos.

Pete Caradonna and Travis Amos scored for 0-4 Gardiner.

Hampden goalie Ryan Richards made 13 saves on 15 shots, while Gardiner’s Chris Howe saved 26 of 30 shots.

Girls basketball

Bangor 46, Old Town 45

At Bangor, Amy Hackett scored a basket to put Bangor up by one with four seconds left to lead the Rams past Old Town.

Tawnya Godinez blocked Old Town’s final shot as the buzzer rang.

Serena Dubois had 13 points and 12 rebounds for the Rams, and Noelle Lincoln scored 12 points.

Jenna King led Old Town with 19 points and Katie Bergeron added 13.

Bree Hanscom led Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln with a game-high 23 points, while Michelle Paul scored 18 and Quinci Sanderson added 13.

Kristen Richards and Marianne Croce scored eight points apiece for the Windjammers, who improved to 6-0.

Caitlin Hynes’ game-high 17 points paced 4-1 Rockland.
