Corey is a very enjoyable 14-year-old to spend time with. He has a good sense of humor and “random things make him laugh,” he says.

Corey enjoys spending time with other people during both indoor and outdoor activities. His favorite sport is ice hockey, though he says that “hockey can be played anywhere, even if there is not any ice.” Corey works hard on his coordination skills and has made a lot of progress in recent months.

The teen also greatly enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking, climbing, fishing and camping, whenever he has the opportunity. Earlier this month, Corey had the opportunity to show some of his skills when he was filmed for WABI Thursday’s Child at the Old Town Y rock wall gymnasium. The program will air Jan. 5. Corey displayed great agility and minimal fear as he scaled the vertical wall.

Corey also enjoys reading and watching movies, particularly “Harry Potter.” Corey’s favorite holidays are Christmas and his birthday. In school, he is on grade level and he receives special education services.

Corey looks forward to being adopted. He also looks forward to being in a home with people who he knows will always be there for him. Corey hopes to have both a mother and a father, though he also would do well with a single father. Corey would love to have older siblings and his own bedroom. He also hopes someday to have a dog.

Corey is one of 179 children currently in the Maine Department of Health and Human Service’s care who is seeking an adoptive family.

Based in Gardiner, A Family for ME is a nonprofit program that works in collaboration with Maine DHHS to find foster and adoptive families for Maine children in care.

For information about Corey or other children available for adoption, contact A Family for ME toll-free at (877) 505-0545 or visit www.AFamilyForMe.org and see the Heart Gallery of photographs of some of the many children awaiting adoption.
