Greenfield man accused of leaving crash scene

BANGOR – A Greenfield man was summoned by police Friday in connection with a three-vehicle accident on Route 1A in Holden last week.

Mark E. Libby, 51, faces misdemeanor charges of operating without a license, leaving the scene of an accident where personal injury occurred, and failure to notify authorities of an accident, according to police.

Holden police issued the summonses at Libby’s place of work in Bangor. He is scheduled to appear in Bangor District Court on Feb. 6, according to Officer Chris Greeley of the Holden police.

The accident occurred on Dec. 23 near Sinclair’s Store. A car driven by Robert Graffam, 79, of Hampden was stopped on Route 1A in order to turn left onto Bagaduce Road when it was rear-ended by a pickup truck driven by Timothy Norsworthy, 47, of Lisbon. The impact spun Graffam’s car around and it was struck by Libby, who was also driving a pickup truck.

Libby sped away from the scene, police said. Two passengers in the other vehicles suffered minor injuries. Traffic was snarled for half an hour.

Greeley said it took police a few days to locate Libby because he had time off from work and his residence is in an isolated area. Bangor police assisted in the case.

No charges are expected to be filed against the other drivers, Greeley said.
