WATERVILLE – Dorothy “Bibby” Alfond, wife of Dexter Shoe Co. founder and philanthropist Harold Alfond, died Saturday. She was 89.
Friends and relatives described her as generous woman who supported her husband’s charitable work as well as contributing to causes in her own right as well.
The campus of the Maine Children’s Home for Little Wanderers in Waterville is named for Dorothy Alfond. She once served on its board of directors.
