MDI holds off Vikings

CARIBOU – Andrew Veilleux hit four key free throws in the final 1:35 as the Mount Desert Island Trojans held off the Caribou Vikings 52-45 in a high school boys basketball game Monday.

Kyle Staples paced the Trojans with 17 points, Robbin Daley put in 13 and Veilleux netted 11.

Jarryd Rossignol led the Vikings with 20 points and Jordan Haines added 10.

Calais wins two games

The Calais Blue Devils improved to 7-0 with a pair of victories over the holiday weekend as they knocked off previously unbeaten Madawaska 57-51 on Saturday and defeated Houlton 60-39 on Monday.

At Madawaska on Saturday, Chris Taylor, Mike Guthrie and Sam Bell each scored 12 points to lead the Blue Devils.

Alan Campbell’s 14 points led the Owls. Dominique Rossignol tallied 13 points and six assists while Mark Sirois had eight points and 10 rebounds.

At Calais on Monday, Aaron Knowles scored 14 points and Brandon Tomah chipped in with 13 points and five steals to pace the Blue Devils.

Chris Taylor added 12 points and 12 rebounds for the winners and Bell had four steals.

Matt Anderson paced Houlton with 11 points.
