Bangor-area educators and businesses are teaming up for another year of the Building Bridges Program, a partnership sponsored by the Bangor Area Region Chamber of Commerce. Hundreds of educators and students have touted the program as one of the most effective educational activities they have experienced. Participating businesses find it a valuable means to develop the future work force.

From February to May each year, Maine businesses host on-site tours for about 20 educators. During discussions, business representatives and educators explore the specifics of the rapidly changing workplace and the implications for those who will soon be entering it. Each group provides valuable suggestions and ideas.

The Building Bridges Program, although it was the first of its kind in Maine, is now among more than 30 in various parts of the state. For teachers, the program offers three teacher recertification credits for 11 three-hour sessions held from 3:15 to 6 p.m. each week beginning in early February. Information about the program may be obtained by calling the Chamber at 947-0307.
