This friendly little girl is as unique as her red hair and freckles.
Angela, 10, is energetic with a lot of enthusiasm for life and activity. She likes to do crafts, swim, play outside, watch movies and use her imagination. Polite and social, she seeks out affection and enjoys learning new things.
Angela experiences anxiety and hyperactivity because of challenging early childhood experiences, and she benefits from extra supervision to help manage her angst and enhance her sense of safety. She is making significant gains from attending therapy. Angela has a neat sense of humor and likes to please others. Her foster mom says she is easy to redirect. Her foster family is structured, consistent and nurturing, with a kind of warm patience that has made Angela feel safe.
Angela is in a regular classroom with some modified work. Her teacher enjoys having her in the classroom and says she is kind to all the other children. She is working below grade level in many areas, but has made a lot of gains and is of average ability.
The ideal family for Angela will believe she is extra special and that they are lucky to have her, despite the challenges they will face. Angela would do best with older or no other children to provide her with the time and attention she craves.
Angela needs a family willing to maintain contact with her siblings who have been adopted by relatives in other states.
Adoption subsidy is available for the most appropriate family. Angela is one of 174 children now in the care of the Maine Department of Health and Human Services who is seeking an adoptive family.
Based in Gardiner, A Family for ME is a nonprofit program that works in collaboration with Maine DHHS to find foster and adoptive families for Maine children in care.
