Police request help in naming forgery suspect

SKOWHEGAN – Armed with a photograph taken by a bank surveillance camera, Maine State Police Trooper Diane Perkins-Vance is hoping someone will recognize a suspected check forger and help police with his apprehension.

Last May, the male walked into three branches of the Bangor Savings Bank, on Hammond Street, Hogan Road and State Street in Bangor, Perkins-Vance said Friday.

The perpetrator presented one check at each branch drawn on SAD 74, which is the school district in the Madison area, and provided three different false names and addresses, three different dates of birth and three different license numbers.

Security videos showed that the checks were submitted, however, by the same man. The checks totaled $6,559.

Perkins-Vance said attempts were made in the central Maine area to publish the photograph, with no results, so the investigation is now moving to the Bangor area.

Anyone who recognizes the man is asked to call Perkins-Vance at the Maine State Police headquarters in Augusta at (800) 452-4664.
