AUGUSTA – In honor of Sgt. 1st Class Shawn Dostie, a Maine native whose funeral will be held today, Gov. John E. Baldacci has directed that the American flag and the state of Maine flag be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset.
Dostie died from injuries suffered when a roadside bomb detonated near his Humvee during patrol operations in Baghdad on Dec. 30.
Dostie grew up in the Lewiston area, living in Lewiston and Turner until he was 14. He moved to Illinois with his parents in 1986, but returned to Lewiston for his senior year of high school. He joined the Army after graduating in 1991. He is survived by a wife and two young children.
