Johnson, Calligan lead UM-Machias by UMA

MACHIAS – Jeremiah Johnson scored 31 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the University of Maine-Machias to an 84-64 men’s basketball victory over UM-Augusta Tuesday night.

Charlie Calligan added 17 points for the Clippers. Moti Kardish had 10 points, 12 rebounds, and three steals and Phil Munro had 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Eric Collins led UMA with 21 points and Jonathan Hill had 20 points and nine rebounds. Ben Laflin added 11 points.

At Gorham, Walter Phillips nailed a 3-pointer as time expired to lift the University of Southern Maine to victory.

The game was tied five times and there were 12 lead changes.

Phillips and Bill Hardwick each scored 13 points to lead the winners. Josh Daniels added 11 points and Jesse McKinnell grabbed 10 rebounds. Phillips also had six assists.

Kamari Williams paced RIC with 13 points.

At Gorham, Ashley Marble tallied 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead top-ranked University of Southern Maine to their 40th straight win at home.

Donna Cowing netted 19 points while Katie Frost and Shannon Kynoch each had 11 points for the Huskies.

Jamie Angell led Rhode Island College with 15 points and Kari Geisler added 13 points.
