Owls hand Van Buren first defeat Rossignol sparks Madawaska

MADAWASKA – Dom Rossignol scored 18 of his game-high 28 points in the second half as the Madawaska Owls pulled away for a 66-45 high school boys basketball victory over the previously undefeated Van Buren Crusaders Tuesday.

Rossignol dished out five assists and Mark Sirois notched a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds for Madawaska. Alan Campbell tossed in 13 points and Josh Pelletier grabbed 11 rebounds.

Trevor Hews paced the Crusaders with 11 points and Ben Doucette added 10 more.

At Hodgdon, the Cougars capitalized after an injury and a foul-out cost the Hawks two of their top guards, pressing Hodgdon into 17 third-quarter turnovers and outscoring the hosts 26-5 in the period on their way to their ninth victory.

Patrick Willett tossed in 26 points, including 22 in the second half, for Katahdin of Stacyville. Owen McCarthy added 11 points for the winners.

Jordan Guy paced Hodgdon with 12 points, while Travis Bartley provided 10 points and 15 rebounds. Jesse Lane added 10 points.

Dylan Collins led the 4-4 Wildcats with a goal and assist. David O’Brien and Ted Gagnon added a goal each and Brendan Esquibel saved 22 of 27 shots.
