An Orono man caught Saturday evening trying to steal condoms and other items from Wal-Mart in Bangor was issued a summons on charges of theft and trafficking in dangerous knives after police found an illegal butterfly-style knife in his pocket.
Kevin Alari, 19, was taken into custody by a security officer at Wal-Mart at about 8:45 p.m. Saturday. The officer had seen Alari take a radio, several packages of AA batteries and two boxes of condoms, according to a police report. The total value of the items was about $70.
When Bangor police arrived, they discovered that Alari was carrying the illegal knife, which was taken by the officer, according to the report.

A Hudson Road resident alerted police in Bangor on Saturday after discovering that several tools and the toolboxes that held them were missing from the barn behind his home.
The man showed police a broken lock and two broken stained glass windows, but police were not able to gather any concrete evidence. The homeowner also was not able to provide specific information on exactly what was taken, according to police.
The man’s home was added to a rapidly growing list of residences and job sites within the city that have reported missing tools, police said.
