Panthers top Hodgdon York’s 38 leads Central Aroostook to 9th straight win

MARS HILL – Andrew York tallied 38 points, including six 3-pointers, as Central Aroostook rolled by Hodgdon 84-36 in a schoolboy basketball game Saturday.

Tim Carlson scored 12 points while Cam York added 10 points for the Panthers, who scored their ninth straight victory.

Kirby Sanford led Hodgdon with nine points. Travis Bartley grabbed 11 rebounds.

At Lee, Peter Pickering’s 3-pointer with 16.1 seconds left forced overtime, and the Pandas then limited Washington Academy of East Machias to two points in the extra session to earn the victory.

Tom Bird led Lee with 22 points, including a 12-of-14 effort from the free-throw line. Pickering finished with 14 points and six assists for the Pandas, who trailed by as many as 10 points in the third quarter.

Kris King added 12 points and 10 rebounds for Lee.

Mike Von Rotz scored 15 points for WA, while Jarred Sternbergh had 14 points and 12 rebounds, Corey Colbeth scored 13 points and Eric Leighton added 11.

At T.J. Ryan Center in Brewer, Prentiss Swett’s goal off an assist from Zach Wilson with 3:09 left in the game broke a scoreless tie and sent the Witches on to victory.

The other goal for the 9-1 Witches came on an empty-netter by Dylan Fitzpatrick in the final seconds. Ben Caldwell was credited with the assist. Jim Nicknair notched his first shutout this season by saving all nine shots he faced.

For the 4-5 Wildcats, Brendon Esquibel made 31 saves on 32 shots.
