I’m writing to express my disappointment in the demeanor of some of our U.S. senators in their questioning of Judge Samuel Alito during the Senate confirmation hearings for his nomination to the Supreme Court.

Judge Alito presented himself in a most professional manner, unlike Sens. Edward Kennedy and Charles Schumer. I didn’t have the privilege of seeing the whole hearing process, but of what I did see, I felt embarrassed for the Senate at large.

The men and women who step up to the call of a president to serve on the Supreme Court should be treated with the utmost respect, and at the very least, the hearing should be conducted with civility.

Thank you, Sen. Lindsey Graham, for the apology for your constituents.
