A Bangor teenager was arrested for criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon after police alleged that he went to the residence of a former friend and tried to swing a tire iron at him.

Ransford Bubar, 19, and another man began arguing outside a Deer Isle Drive apartment when Bubar pulled out a tire iron, according to a police report. The two were fighting over a continuing dispute regarding a stolen television, police said.

The other man went inside, grabbed a knife for protection and called police. When officers arrived, Bubar was gone. After hearing statements from the alleged victim and another apartment resident, police concluded that Bubar had initiated the fight.

About an hour and a half later, Bubar called the Bangor Police Department and turned himself in. Police picked him up in Hermon. He was arrested there and taken to Penobscot County Jail in Bangor.

Around the same time Ransford Bubar was being arrested, another Bangor police officer was assisting Brewer police on a traffic stop. The car was suspected to be involved in the incident at the Deer Isle Drive apartment.

The car’s driver, Adam Rodriguez, 24, of Brewer, admitted to driving Bubar to the residence, but said he left shortly afterward. At that time police still weren’t sure of Rodriguez’s involvement in the attempted assault, so the Brewer man was patted down.

Police found a marijuana pipe and a small plastic bag full of marijuana. Rodriguez was issued summonses for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police concluded that he was not involved in the incident earlier that evening.

A city-owned bus struck a car early Tuesday morning on Third Street in Bangor after the car failed to stop at a four-way intersection.

One of the nine bus passengers was injured in the accident. Virginia Johnston, 26, was treated for facial lacerations, but her injuries were not considered serious, police said.

The bus was traveling down Third Street when a 2003 Subaru station wagon crossed from Warren Street without stopping, according to police. The two vehicles collided, sending the station wagon careening into a stop sign.

The driver of the Subaru, Jane Fried Gottlieb, 59, of Bangor, complained of back pain but was not seriously hurt. Her car had about $3,000 in damage. Gottlieb later told police that the sun was directly in her eyes and she could not see the stop sign, according to a police report.

The bus, driven by Richard Hannan, 59, of Levant, had about $1,500 in damage.
