MAINE vs. NEW HAMPSHIRE
Time, site: Wednesday, 7 p.m.; Lundholm Gymnasium, Durham, N.H.
Records: Maine 5-9 (1-2 America East); New Hampshire 9-5 (1-2)
Series, last meeting: Maine leads 41-19, Maine 59-50 on 2/08/05
Key players: Maine – 5-8 G Ashley Underwood (13.2 ppg, 2.5 apg, .763 FT pct.), 6-1 G/F Bracey Barker (12.0 ppg, 6.8 rpg, .833 FT pct.), 6-3 C Abby Schrader (11.6 ppg, 9.8 rpg, 1.1 bpg, .750 FT pct.), 6-2 F Katie Whittier (9.4 ppg, 5.7 rpg, .663 FG pct.), 5-6 G Margaret Elderton (4.0 ppg, 2.4 apg); UNH – 6-0 F Danielle Clark (15.1 ppg, 6.7 rpg, .802 FT pct.), 6-0 F Ray Williams (9.8 ppg, 5.2 rpg, .629 FG pct.), 5-6 G Whitney Edwards (7.9 ppg, 3.6 apg), 5-11 F Lindsay Adams (7.7 ppg, 4.7 rpg), 5-9 G Ebony Woods (6.9 ppg, 4.6 rpg)
Outlook: Maine has lost three of four and needs an emotional boost. UNH has dropped three straight, including Saturday’s home loss to Stony Brook. If Maine’s guards can handle pressure from the likes of Edwards and Woods, it should be able to utilize its strong post game headed by Schrader. However, the Bears continue to be plagued by turnovers (20.7 per game). Despite shooting 42 percent from the floor and 72 percent from the foul line (tops in AE), UMaine is averaging only 61.4 ppg. The Bears have held opponents to a league-low 36 percent shooting, but haven’t rebounded consistently, which is needed to initiate their transition game. Corinna’s Clark, a former Nokomis HS star, leads UNH in scoring and rebounding. The ‘Cats have a knack for getting to the foul line.
