$4,000 Beanie Baby theft reported at John Bapst

A custodian at John Bapst Memorial High School in Bangor reported this week the theft of about $4,000 worth of stuffed animals that he kept in a storage area at the school.

The custodian told police that two large trash bags full of approximately 300-400 Beanie Baby collectibles he owned were missing from a small storage room on the third floor of the school.

The school employee said the door to the room is usually locked, but not always, and any student could have access to the area. The custodian said he last checked on the Beanie Babies about a month ago.

An Orono police officer caught two young men just before midnight Wednesday as they were attempting to break into a car parked at a Main Street residence.

Andrew Will, 18, of Hudson and Gregory Glidden, 23, of Corinth were each arrested on charges of burglary to a motor vehicle. Glidden also had outstanding warrants in Kennebec County.

Officer Chris Watson said the car’s owner heard a noise and looked outside and saw two people near his car. The owner called police, and Watson was close enough to catch Will and Glidden before they could take off.
