Scott, 8, likes pets, outdoors

Scott is a very outgoing, personable and friendly 8-year-old boy, even though he initially appears to be quiet and reserved. He enjoys the outdoors, particularly activities that involve the water, such as fishing and boating. Scott is an active child and loves animals. Two of his favorite activities are running and riding his bike.

When Scott first meets people, he approaches them with caution. He doesn’t share his needs openly with those he does not know. Once he begins to know someone, however, he is open about his likes, dislikes, needs and feelings. The key to developing trust with Scott is to draw out his personality by engaging him in activities he loves to do.

Scott has a pleasant personality. He gets along well with his current foster family and with his peers at school. Scott receives special education services to assist him with reading and maintaining his focus on schoolwork. His reading skills have improved greatly, and he enjoys reading. Scott has been playing basketball with other children in grades three through five through a local school program.

Scott and his 11-year-old brother, Ricky, came into care in October 2003. They have been living in separate foster homes, but they visit regularly and hope to be adopted into the same family together.

Scott is anxious about adoption, as he has experienced security and safety in his current foster home. He attends weekly therapy sessions. He has begun to understand the circumstances of his early childhood, and continued therapy is recommended to assist Scott with the transition to an adoptive family.

Families that have experience with children who have special needs, are flexible in their approach to limit setting, and are open to receiving outside support to assist them with understanding Scott’s needs will be considered as a potential adoptive resource.

An adoption subsidy is available for the most appropriate family.

Scott and his brother Ricky are two of the 175 children currently in Maine Department of Health and Human Services care who are seeking an adoptive family.

Based in Gardiner, A Family for ME is a nonprofit program that works in collaboration with Maine DHHS to find foster and adoptive families for Maine children in care.
