I read in the Bangor Daily News Jan. 18 that Carroll W. Marston of Kennebec passed away.

When I was growing up in Marshfield, I remember him delivering milk for Schoppee’s Dairy and I always looked forward to see his milk truck pull into the driveway. I remember him as a quiet, friendly man, but never knew he was a World War II veteran who fought in the Battle of the Bulge until I read his obituary. Our WWII veterans are dying at the rate of about 2,000 a day and few receive the recognition they deserve.

A man wrote a song to honor these veterans called “Before You Go.” It encourages people to go out of their way to thank the aging WWII warriors before they die. For those who have a computer, you can go to http://www.beforeyougo.us and listen to this moving song.

I’m sorry I’m too late to thank Carroll, but I’d like to pass on my thanks to his family. Please thank the old warriors before it’s too late.

Patrick K. Flaherty
