MONTVILLE – The Waldo County Sheriff’s Department is investigating two home burglaries that were reported six hours apart on Thursday.

Two safes, cash and jewels were taken in the break-ins.

The first was reported at about 2:15 p.m. by a Choate Road resident who discovered his home had been entered while he was away.

Entry was gained by forcing the front door open. Jewels and money were taken. Detective Greg Stearns and Deputies Merl Reed and James Greeley responded. A witness told authorities that a red car was seen leaving the area.

The second break-in was reported at 8:14 p.m. by a resident of North Trotting Park Road.

Entrance was gained through a hallway to a downstairs apartment. Once inside, the intruder forced open a bedroom door and made off with two safes. Detectives Bryant White, Scott Bryant and Deputy Matt Curtis responded.
