Police investigate theft of puppy at Airport Mall

Bangor police are investigating the theft of a puppy from the Airport Mall pet store last week and Sgt. Bob Bishop said Tuesday that two juvenile suspects are being questioned in connection.

The theft happened last Thursday on the same day an elderly woman had purchased the puppy. The woman was supposed to come back and pick the animal up, but it was already gone when she got there.

The would-be owner even took out a small loan to purchase the pup. The pet store owner also said in an e-mail sent to the Bangor Daily News that the dog was discounted by about $300 because “we felt the dog would have a good home.”

The dog still has not been found, but police continue to investigate.

An Indian Island man was arrested Monday night for violating bail conditions after police in Orono executed a search warrant and found him at a residence where he wasn’t supposed to be.

Cory Fields, 20, was arrested in June for allegedly threatening his girlfriend with a knife, Orono police Sgt. Josh Ewing said Tuesday.

As part of Fields’ bail conditions, he was not to have contact with the girlfriend. However, police learned that Fields had been in contact with the woman, according to Ewing.

Officers monitored Fields and obtained a search warrant after the man went to his brother’s residence on Indian Island, another violation of his bail conditions.

Fields was arrested without incident around 10 p.m., Ewing said.

A woman reportedly stole $136 worth of jewelry Monday from Filenes at the Bangor Mall, then was caught trying to return the merchandise for cash later that day.

Myndie D. Davis, 23, of Hermon was detained by a security officer at Filenes around 5 p.m. after a security camera caught some of the thefts on tape, according to a police report.

While waiting for Bangor police to arrive, the security officer found an additional $547 worth of jewelry and clothing in Davis’ bag.

Davis was issued a summons for theft. She told police that she was stealing because she had a 5-month-old baby to care for and didn’t have any money left over for herself, according to a report.
