‘Flavor’ leaves bad taste in mouth

“The Flavor of Love” is enough to put a bad taste in anyone’s mouth. As if we hadn’t heard enough from reality rapper Flavor Flav in “The Surreal Life 3” and “Strange Love,” he’s back with his own version of “The Bachelor” on VH1.

I’d seen the painful previews and made a vow not to watch, but even with more than 100 satellite channels to choose from, I found myself tuned in Sunday night as the remaining women vied for the love of Flav’s “moms” by making their own fried chicken recipes.

The show started with 20 women from all walks of life competing to be Flav’s true love.

And you can forget the rose ceremony. Each week Flav says goodbye to those that don’t fit his style with the signature clock ceremony.

I’d take the time tell you what was so bad about the show, but I’m only allotted so much space each week and there are shows much more deserving of words.

I will, however, leave you with a little bit of advice. If you find yourself flipping channels with nothing worthy of watching and happen to scan past “The Flavor of Love,” turn off the TV and pick up a book or roll over and go to sleep.

Another copycat reality show is about to hit UPN. Following in the footsteps of “Party, Party,” the premiere episode of “Get This Party Started” will be on Tuesday, Feb. 7.

Along the same lines as the show it’s modeled after, the premiere of “Get This Party Started” has hosts Kristin Cavallari and Ethan Erickson planning the ultimate surprise 21st birthday party in Las Vegas.

Embarrassing to admit, I had to watch it all the way to the end to find out just what was in store for a family that had survived Hurricane Katrina. For the Jones family, it was more than just a surprise for daughter and sister Alexis, it was an escape from the hotel room in Baton Rouge they’ve called home since the hurricane hit.

A sucker for feel-good reality TV, I liked the first episode, but I’m not so sure the rookie-sounding and acting hosts could keep me interested in the bachelorette, graduation, or wedding parties they have planned for the season.
