Lajoie, Crusaders upset Tigers in overtime

VAN BUREN – Megan Lajoie scored the game-winning free-throw with 16 seconds remaining in overtime to give the Van Buren Crusaders a 35-34 upset win over the Fort Fairfield Tigers in high school girls basketball action Friday night.

Lajoie scored a game-high 15 points to go along with 13 rebounds. Lisa Levasseur added 12 points and Andrea McLaughlin ripped down 12 rebounds for the Crusaders.

Van Buren held Fort Fairfield scoreless in the fourth quarter until Heather Hathaway’s 3-pointer with two seconds left sent the game into overtime.

Hathaway led the Tigers with 12 points on four 3-pointers.

Will McNamara chipped in with two goals for the Huskies and Ben DeHaben added one along with two assists, including one on Kolb’s winning goal. Collin Fyler contributed two assists, Andrew Noyles had one and Will Reyes made 14 saves.

Erik St. Peter scored three goals and recorded an assist to lead the Wildcats and Brad Young added two goals and an assist. Brandon Daigle chipped in with a goal and two assists and Robert Gartley had an assist. Brendon Esquibel had 18 saves.

Drew Farrar poured in 24 points, including the 1,000th of his career to lead the Eagles. Silas Kelly tallied 20 points and Emery Licoln chipped in with 14.
