Editor’s Note: A sibling profile of these two children, who each already have been presented individually, is being featured this week to increase their visibility to prospective adoptive parents.
Scott is a very outgoing, personable and friendly 8-year-old child. Ricky is a very pleasant, sociable and funny 11-year-old boy. Scott and Ricky are brothers who came into care in October 2003. They have been living in separate foster homes, but they visit regularly and hope to be adopted together into the same family. They enjoy each other’s company and hope to share a family that will care for each of them.
Scott enjoys the outdoors, particularly activities that involve the water, such as fishing and boating. He is an active child, and he loves animals. Two of his favorite activities are running and riding his bicycle.
Ricky enjoys reading cookbooks, trying new recipes and especially tasting his creations. Ricky aspires to be a chef one day. He likes playing with toy cars and dinosaur figures with his friends. He also enjoys watching movies and spending one-on-one time with adults.
Scott is anxious about adoption, as he has experienced security and safety in his current foster home. He attends weekly therapy sessions, and he has begun to understand the circumstances of his early childhood. Continued therapy is recommended to assist Scott with the transition to an adoptive family.
Ricky has developed a good relationship with his current foster parents. He benefits from the “flexible structure.” His routine is described as “the same each day” with some flexibility to accommodate spontaneous activities.
Ricky benefits from being informed about changes in his routine, as he does not respond well to sudden changes in his schedule, and he responds well to consistent limits and natural consequences.
Families who have experience with children who have special needs, are flexible in their approach to setting limits and who are open to receiving outside support to assist them with understanding Scott’s and Ricky’s needs will be considered as potential adoptive resources.
An adoption subsidy is available for the most appropriate family.
Scott and Ricky are two of the 175 children currently in Maine Department of Health and Human Service’s care who are seeking an adoptive family.
Based in Gardiner, A Family for ME is a nonprofit program that works in collaboration with Maine DHHS to find foster and adoptive families for Maine children in care.
