DeWitt rallies Eagles Runner snatches win from Bapst

ELLSWORTH – Corey DeWitt scored on a runner with two seconds remaining to lift Ellsworth to a 65-64 basketball victory over John Bapst Saturday afternoon.

DeWitt dropped a game-high 25 points and Demetrios Katsiaficas tossed in 20 for the Eagles. Matt Carst chipped in with 10 for the winners.

Joe Novak scored 20 points and ripped down 24 rebounds for the Crusaders. Josh Jameson added 13 points and Ethan Cushman came off the bench to score 10.

Stephen Newell also turned in a 6-for-7 effort in the fourth quarter to aid Woodland, which had to counter a 13-point, third-quarter effort by J-B’s Ross Griffin. Griffin finished with 24 points, 22 in the second half.

Newell paced Woodland with 23 points and Chase Smith added 18. James netted 12 and Chris Moody had 10.

Joseph Libby chipped in with 19 points for the Royals, Ben Ellis put in 13 and Ralph Backman netted 10.

Laureta Ricker had 19 points for the winners; Helen Pottle had nine points; Randi Smith grabbed 15 rebounds and Donna Candelmo hit an important three-pointer in overtime.

Kristina Scoville’s 22 points and Chelsea Hall’s 20 and Kayla Corey’s 14 points led Lubec.
