DHL contractor Rydbom Express filed a response Monday in Penobscot County Superior Court denying that it owes overtime wages to employees of its Brewer distribution center. Earlier this month state officials filed a lawsuit against Rydbom, alleging that the Pennsylvania-based delivery company owes approximately 25 of its employees between $20,000 and $25,000. In Rydbom’s three-page response, prepared by Bangor lawyer Thad Zmistowski, the company denies it owes overtime wages and indicates federal law prevents the state from filing suit against Rydbom. Zmistowski declined Monday to comment about his client’s response. He said it could be another eight months before the parties prepare their cases and are scheduled to appear in court.
