BANGOR – An Aroostook County man pleaded not guilty Tuesday in U.S. District Court to conspiracy to import OxyContin.

Scott Norton, 28, of Woodland is being at held at Penobscot County Jail. A detention hearing to determine whether he will be released on bail will be held Friday before U.S. Magistrate Judge Margaret Kravchuk.

Norton was arrested Monday by U.S. marshals. He was indicted earlier this month by a federal grand jury.

If convicted, Norton faces up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $1 million. The U.S. Attorney’s Office also is seeking the forfeiture of Norton’s 2004 GMC Sierra pickup truck and $4,800 in cash.

According to court documents, Norton’s case is related to the prosecution of Thomas Michael Daigle, 31, of Oak Bay, New Brunswick.

The Canadian was arrested in March after border agents found 142 oxycodone pills in his pants pocket. He was detected by an electronic intrusion device when he crossed the border on foot near the Milltown Trestle.

Daigle pleaded guilty in November in U.S. District Court to the importation of OxyContin. He also faces up to 20 years in prison and fine of up to $1 million. Daigle is scheduled to be sentenced March 1.
