State police were searching for a white pickup truck that was seen Thursday night driving north in the southbound lane of Interstate 95 near Carmel.

State troopers and Hampden police blocked off southbound traffic at the Coldbrook Road around 7 p.m. and readied spike mats in case the pickup truck made it that far north. Trooper Chris Hashey said that he planned to intercept the vehicle to stop it before it got to the Coldbrook Road.

The pickup truck, believed to be an extended-cab model, turned off the Carmel-Winterport exit before the police could get to it, Hashey said.

Veazie police stopped a car late Wednesday evening on Chase Road for having a loud exhaust and ended up arresting two men and charging them with trafficking in marijuana.

After officers learned that the driver was on probation, they became suspicious and asked to search the vehicle, Veazie police Officer Michael Adams said Thursday.

Police received permission and found two open containers of alcohol, three packages each of cocaine and marijuana, and more than $1,000 in cash, Adams said.

Half brothers Phillip Chase, 22, and Anthony McGilvray Jr., 18, both of Newburgh, were each charged with trafficking in a Schedule D drug, a Class B felony.

McGilvray admitted that the cocaine belonged to him, Adams said, and was charged with possession of a Schedule W drug as well. Chase was charged with violating probation.

Both Chase and McGilvray were taken to Penobscot County Jail.

A third man, Harry Bouchard, 40, of Bangor, was charged with possessing an open container of alcohol but was not arrested.
