Not written in stone

We are new to the area having only been here three years. We come from a little town in Connecticut called Ledyard. We have always had a mayor whom the people elected, so we are pretty ignorant to the concept of town manager. We have attended a few meetings and could not believe what we were hearing. Articles written with the word “beloved” are beyond us. Our family is “beloved” – certainly not our town officials.

Since moving to this beautiful town of St. Albans we have heard a lot about former Town Manager Larry Post. We certainly cannot judge his performance on what we hear, but only on our own experience with him.

Two years ago we went to see Post about a serious problem concerning out property. He told us he would check into this and get back to us. He never did.

So we approached him again and he said he was sorry, but he’s been busy and he would take care of it shortly. He never did. So we approached Town Selectman Dan Hansen who addressed the problem. We were informed that our problem was not Post’s job, but theirs.

I don’t understand why Post thinks his job is written in stone. His last words were, “I’ll be back.” That is a scary statement for anyone to make to think he has that much influence in a small town.

Every municipality needs checks and balances, and from what I have seen Post seems to be offended by these checks and balances. It is time for a change.
