Colorado woman arrested in Millinocket in identity theft

A Colorado woman wanted on a nationwide warrant for racketeering and identity theft was arrested at her mother’s house in Millinocket Friday evening.

Millinocket police received a call earlier Friday from Detective Mark Mantych of the Arvada, Colo., police department saying that he had received a tip that Erin Salmen, 22, was staying with her mother in Millinocket.

Two police officers were dispatched to the residence to look for her and found that she was not home at the time. An officer waited for her to return, and she pulled into the driveway at 5:40 p.m.

Salmen was arrested without incident and transported to the Penobscot County Jail in Bangor, where she remained on $100,000 bail. She is expected to be extradited to Colorado.

A Madawaska man was arrested Friday night in Bangor after causing a scene on a Greyhound bus, police said.

Two Bangor police officers, later joined by a third, arrived at the Concord Trailways bus station on Union Street, where the driver had stopped at 6:30 p.m. Friday, and located a man, later identified as Troy Soucy, 29.

The bus driver requested that Soucy be removed from the bus because he was intoxicated and acting belligerently toward other passengers.

Officers asked Soucy to get off the bus, and he slowly complied. Officers asked for identification and he refused, but then pulled his wallet out and flashed a Maine driver’s license, which turned out to be his wife’s, according to reports.

Soucy gradually became more agitated with officers and appeared to attempt to punch one of the officers, police said. Two of the officers grabbed him and tried to handcuff him. He resisted. Soucy allegedly grabbed Officer James Hassard’s thumb during the struggle and bent it backward, injuring him.

Soucy was finally cuffed and transported to the Penobscot County Jail, where the corrections officer recognized him as an inmate who had been released four hours earlier after a 45-day jail sentence. Soucy, who is on probation, remained at the jail Friday night.
